California native, Carolyn Lord has been a "plein air" artist since her student years at Principia College, Illinois. Her early career was influenced by the 20th Century California Watercolor Style of Millard Sheets and his peers which featured bold color and strong design. Lord's mid-career work has been focused on the vernacular architecture, landscapes and gardens. With studies at Golden Gate Atelier, Oakland, aspects of Tonalism and Impressionism have been integrated into her watercolors and oils, painted plein air or in the studio.
